In the month of October 2017, during the next round of the section between the N153-N232 towers of the 500 sq.m. “Kavkasion” running through the Kodori valley in the territory of the Gulrifshi municipality, towers with missing angles were observed. The condition was particularly severe on N203 and N204, У2+5 type corner towers, whose 5-meter-high stands required complete restoration and renewal.
We considered it necessary to restore the mentioned masts, because in the coming winter conditions, in case of heavy snowfall in the Kodori valley, it was not excluded that these masts could be damaged and even fall down.
We started the repair works to strengthen the N203 and N204 masts of the 500 kV electric power station “Kavkasion” on December 27, 2017, and in order to correct the situation in time, we carried out work continuously, including on New Year’s days. The mentioned towers are located in the Kodori river valley, and it is impossible to reach them by means of equipment and deliver materials there, due to the condition of the existing roads. With the use of heavy and special equipment, up to 4 tons of angular and mestizos were brought to the N201 mast of the so-called “Kavkasion”, from where the mentioned materials and the tools and equipment necessary for the performance of the works were brought to the site manually – using manpower – at a distance of 1.5-2 kilometers, in difficult terrain and meteorological conditions.
The company’s local and hired staff of 14 people took part in the production of works. Project and construction manager of JSC “Sakrusenergo” Yuriy Nadiradze was in charge of the works.
The production of strengthening works of N203-N204 masts of 500 kV EGK “Kavkasion” was completed on January 12, 2018, which significantly increased the reliability and sustainability of EGK.
Relatively less, but the problem of the stability of the constructions also exists for the so-called “Caucasion” towers N166, N170, N172, N178, N184, N197, N199, N200, N203, N204, N205 and N206 passing through the Kodori valley, on which we plan to carry out work during the summer.
