In accordance with the business plan 2019 defined by the JSC UES SAKRUSENERGO the process of connection of the section between the towers N42-N109 of the electricity transmission line Mukhrani (500kV) to the 500kV bar of the Marneuli substation has been launched. The ongoing work was inspected by the leadership of the company on November 20, 2019.

Electricity transmission line Mukhrani (500kV) connecting energy systems of Georgia and Azerbaijan via the substations Ksani -500 and Mingechauri (Azerbaijani) was not active and was robbed in 90s. After the restoration and rehabilitation of the electricity transmission line Mukhrani (500kV) in 2011-2016 and after construction of the new substations Marneuli-500 and Samukhi (Azerbaijan), the transmission line was divided into several sections:

  • In 2011, the section between the towers N1-N36 of Mukhrani (500kV) was applied in the process of the construction of a new transmission line Mukhrani Valley (500kV); It connected with substations Gardabani – 500 and Samukhi (Azerbaijan). The length of the transmission line on the territory of Georgia comprised 20 km and on the territory of Azerbaijan – 100km;
  • In the framework of the ten-year plan for the development of the Georgian electricity transmission net, the JSC UES SAKRUSENERGO performed the connection work of the section between the N110-N281towers of Mukhrani (500kV) to the 500kV bar of Marneuli -500. The length of the mentioned electricity transmission line comprises 50km and it connects with substations Ksani -500 and Marneuli – 500; It is known as transmission line Asureti;
  • Within the ten-year plan for the development of the Georgian electricity transmission net, the construction of Marnuli-Airum (Debeda) transmission line (500kV) must be over by 2022 and it will connect substations Marneuli -500 and Airum (Armenia); The project is known as Marnuli-Airum; The length of the transmission line on the territory of Georgia will comprise 37km and it will include 18km rehabilitated section between the N42-N109 towers of Mukhrani transmission line (500kV). The length of the transmission line on the territory of Armenia from Georgian-Armenian border to substation Airum comprises 10km.

The process of connection of the section between the towers №42-№109 of Mukhrani (500kV) to 500kV bar of substation Marneuli -500 was launched on November 6, 2019. The foundations were arranged and new №109 and N109 (У2К+5 type) towers were installed. By the moment, in coordination with the National Dispatch Center, the process of setting up the conductor and connection to the portal is undergoing and the work will be over on November 30, 2019.

Considering the volume of the work to be implemented, the employees of Tbilisi and Khashuri Repair-Exploitation districts as well as the transport office, in total about 50 employees and 15 vehicles are mobilized on the location.

The process is coordinated and monitored by the Construction and Exploitation Manager of electricity transmission lines of Eastern Georgia, Vakhtang Kikvadze; Felix Janashia, the head of Labor Security Service, will control the implementation of security measures on the working area; An independent expert will perform monitoring and control over the underground work.
