At the end of January this year there were several significant issues about operation of 500KW “Causacion”. On April 1 2024 helicopter flight in order to identify exact damages were conducted. Damaged phase “A” was found between towers number 225 & 224. The other side of the damaged wire was hung on the rope suspension rollers, implemented instead of the N224 support.  On the way to kodori valley from the N219 base on caucasion transmission line, there were several avalanches, which posed a danger to the elimination team. Due to the danger of avalanches, it was considered impossible to safely reach the damaged phase “A” until the end of the avalanche process. As soon as meteorological conditions made it possible, elimination team was ready to reached the damaged place and perform planned works, that would allow transmission line to operate with 20% limited capacity. In particular: the damaged wire had to be cut and removed from the other wires. In order to conduct above mentioned measures Sakrusenergo’s head of design & construction service Mr. Yuri Nadiradze and foreman of Tbilisi construction & rehabilitation unit Mr. Vakhtang Chubinidze together with 5 employees of Chernomorenergo flew from Sokhumi to the Kodori valley.  The helicopter landed near the N219 tower, from where the personnel had to walk in direction of N225 tower, on their road team had to cross swollen river carrying heavy materials and equipment. On April 16, personnel managed to cut the damaged wire from the wire holding rollers. After the completion of mentioned works the transmission line was tested under the voltage; on the N44 mast the loops were connected and the line was smoothed to the centralnaya substation. Despite all the hard job that was conducted the transmission line was not able to hold the voltage. Base on the above, a decision was made to test the line from the sub-station Jvari. The test was successful.

Currently, the transmission line is in working condition and is at the disposal of the national dispatch center of JSC Georgian state electric system. It should be considered that, until the end of rehabilitation works the transmission line’s load will not be allowed without reducing it by 20% within the operational limits. Currently, JSC Sakrusenergo has completed the design and cost accounting documentation for the replacement of N226 support with rope suspension.
