In agreement with the National Dispatch Center of Georgia, the 500kV transmission line KAVKASIONI was placed under repair on August 15, 2025. The scheduled repair work will last till September 10, 2025.
During this period the following activities are planned to be carried out on the section of the line between towers N26-N151: replacement of broken insulators, grounding devices, repair of damaged conductors in loops and the line, other type of cleaning works. On the section between towers N42-N61, road access to the towers is being cleaned and restored, along with other works identified as necessary during the ongoing repair process.
The repair works on the section between towers N26-N151 are performed by the personnel of Tsalenjikha Operation and Maintenance Unit, JSC SAKRUSENERGO, jointly with the staff from the company’s Tbilisi, Khashuri and Zestaponi branches. The transport service team of the company is also engaged in the process. In total, 30 employees and 12 units of vehicles and special equipment have been mobilized. The works are coordinated and monitored by Andro Tskhadadze, Manager of Western Georgia Operation and Construction Division of the JSC SAKRUSENERGO. The proper operation of vehicles and special equipment is ensured by the company’s transport service staff – deputy head Niko Khipshidze and coordinator Nikoloz Ilashvili. Demuri Buadze and Ilia Kaladze, the deputy heads of Labor Safety and Information Technology Service, supervise the safe performance of work by the personnel.
Similar repair works are also underway on the selection of Kavkasioni line passing through the Kodori Gorge (towers N152-N229) carried out by the contractor New Metal Georgia Ltd. At present, road cleaning and restoration works are in progress from tower N219 to N226 so that in 2026 it will be possible to bring the equipment to the installation site and replace the N225 tower with a rope suspension.
In addition, during the outage of Kavkasioni line, urgent repair works are being performed on the anchor span N235-N236/1, where some defects were identified by Karachay Branch staff in July, 2025. This selection lies at 3 000 meters above sea level, in extremely challenging terrain and meteorological conditions. All materials and equipment are delivered on foot, through 9km distance route. The mentioned work is carried out by the personnel of JSC SAKRUSENERGO. Supervision in the Kodori Gorge section is provided by Iuri Nadiradze, Head of Design and Construction Department of JSC SAKRUSENERGO.
Repair works are also ongoing on the section of Kavkasioni line running through the territory of Russian Federation, between towers N236/1-N756 (Nakharis Pass-substation Tserntralnaya), executed by the staff of Maikop and Karachay Operation and Maintenance units of Karachay branch office of JSC Sakrusenergo.
From August 21 to 23, 2025, the management of JSC SAKRUSENERGO visited the ongoing works on the 500kV Kavkasioni transmission line. During this period, they also inspected the 220kV transmission line Adjara owning by the company (substation Batumi 22, substation Turkey). By the moment this line is out of service due to reconstruction works at the substation Khopa. Currently, the Adjara line is in technically good condition and after minor repairs it will be fully ready for operation.
