Conditions hindering the operation of power transmission lines

Illegal activity of private or legal entities under the power line and in its protection zone is a serious obstacle to the normal operation of power transmission lines. Sometimes on the basis of licenses issued by the relevant authorities, but in complete disregard of the requirements of the normative acts regulating this activity, according to which any activity under the EKG and in the protection zone must be agreed with the organization that owns the power transmission line. There have been cases where licenses have been issued for mining directly under power lines and in the vicinity of pylons. For example, in the village of Zhoneti, Tskaltubo district, an “Indrepreneur” while extracting minerals on the basis of a license, undermined the 500 kV N260 mast of the “Imereti” power station and created the danger of the power transmission line being out of order for a long time. In the event of an accident, it would not be limited to the fall of only one mast, but like a chain reaction, it would follow several others, which would disrupt the stability of the energy system and cause great material damage. Such activities threaten not only the normal operation of the power transmission line and the stability of the energy system, but also the lives of the working personnel and the people living nearby.
