From August 5 to August 31, 2020, the 500 sq.m. “Kavkasion” was under repair in agreement with the National Dispatch Center of Georgia. The works were performed on the sections of the so-called “Caucasus” passing through the territory of both Georgia and Russia.
During the repair period, on the section of the former “Kavkasion” passing through the territory of Georgia, the damaged wires in the loops were repaired, the broken insulators were replaced, the mast stands were strengthened with additional rope tensioners, the access roads to the masts were restored, the masts and the area around the masts were cleared of trees and shrubs. A high-level inspection of EKG was carried out.
At present, the works of strengthening the stands of the “Kavkasion” N54 and N59 towers with gabions are in progress. Fortification works with gabions are also planned for the approach road to the N53 mast of the so-called “Kavkasion”. The works of arranging gabions for the access road to the N53 mast of the former “Kavkasion” and the strengthening of the N54 mast stand are performed by JSC “Sakrusenergo” with the help of hired personnel, and the work of strengthening the N54 mast “A” phase stand with gabions is carried out by the contractor company “Electroxelmshen” LLC. Completion of the mentioned works is expected in October of this year.
Deforestation works along the so-called “Kavkasion” track and around the masts were performed on a total area of 125 ha, including 103 ha on the territory of Russia.
In addition to the mentioned works, on the section N170-N171 of the former “Kavkasion” passing through the Kodori gorge, the work of increasing the gauge was performed by pulling out the “A” phase wires and the damaged loop pipe of the “A” phase of the N215 mast was restored. The contractor company “New Metal-Georgia” Ltd. was performing the works on the section of the former “Kavkasion” going through the Kodori gorge.
In 2020, as a result of the works carried out on the so-called “Caucasion”, the reliability and stability of the transmission line increased significantly, which is a good prerequisite for the successful completion of the autumn-winter season.
