In agreement with the National Dispatch Center of Georgia, the 500 kV overhead line “Caucasioni” was put under repair from July 5, 2024, inclusive.
During the period of the overhead line “Caucasioni” being under repair, the repair works provided for in the 2024 business plan of JSC Gebze “Sakrusenergo” were performed, namely: replacement of broken insulators and insulators, repair of worn-out line elements, damaged wires in loops and lines, felling works, which are completed while the overhead line is under repair. Also, during the mentioned period, work was carried out using heavy equipment to repair temporary access roads to certain overhead line towers and to restore the broken clearance between the wires and the ground in the spans. On the section of the Kavkazion overhead line passing through the Kodori Gorge, damaged insulators were replaced (including 12 insulators broken by avalanches in the rock suspension garland of the “C” phase of the N220 support of the N220 overhead line) and clearance works were performed. Instead of the N224 mast, the wires in the rollers on the rope suspension were straightened and the damaged tips of the aluminum wire were bandaged.
Within the framework of the 2024 maintenance and repair service (REO), repair works were also performed on the section of the Kavkazion overhead line passing through the Russian territory.
The personnel of the Tsalenjikha, Zestaponi, Khashuri, Karachayevsky, Maikop GSUs and the transport service of JSC Ges “Sakrusenergo” were mobilized during the repair work on the Kavkazion overhead line. The repair works on the section of the Kavkasioni overhead line passing through the Kodori Gorge were carried out by the contractor company New Metal Georgia.
As a result of the repair works, the reliability of the Kavkasioni overhead line’s operation has significantly increased, which is very important in the conditions of the upcoming autumn-winter maximum.
Despite the above, due to two cables in the “A” phase of the N224 cable suspension of the Kavkasioni overhead line, the maximum load of the Kavkasioni overhead line is limited by 20% in relation to the operational limits.
The draft Ten-Year Plan for the Development of the Georgian Transmission Network for 2025-2035 envisages the restoration and reconstruction of the access road from the N219 support to the N226 support of the Kavkazioni overhead transmission line and the replacement of the N226 corner anchor support with a rope suspension, as a result of which it will be possible to load the power transmission line within the existing operational limits.
