500 kV “KAVKASIONI” Transmission Line

The 500 kV “Kavkasioni” transmission line is a unique engineering asset of strategic importance to Georgia’s power system, playing a vital role in the country’s electricity supply and energy security.

The line originates at the Enguri Hydropower Plant and follows the valleys of the Enguri, Nakra, Kodori, Klichi, and Kuban rivers. It crosses the Khida and Nakhara mountain passes, continues through the territories of the Karachay-Cherkess Republic and the Republic of Adygea, and terminates at the Tsentralnaya Substation in Krasnodar Krai, Russia.

The transmission line has a total length of 405 km and comprises 991 transmission towers. The section located within Georgia extends 105 km, from the Enguri Hydropower Plant to the Nakhara Pass, and includes 236 transmission towers.

The “Kavkasioni” transmission line was commissioned in 1984.
